All is not well with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national convention scheduled for May 21, as the zoning committee, which met in Abuja on Tuesday night was unable to reach a consensus on the elective political offices.
The zoning committee had earlier met in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state.
Following this development, the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting earlier scheduled for Thursday (today) to ratify the zoning arrangement has been postponed to next week.
The inability of the zoning committee to arrive at a consensus may have necessitated the action of the party leadership to adjust the time-table for 2016 congresses from this Saturday to April 23, while the National Convention remains unchanged as scheduled for Saturday, May 21, 2016.
PDP zoning committee which met in Uyo, last weekend purportedly zoned the National Chairmanship position to North-east, Deputy National Chairman to South-south.
It was also gathered that the position of the National Secretary still remain in the South-west.
Meanwhile, there are moves, however to establish a second deputy national position, which has been zoned to the North-central.
The position of National Publicity Secretary, presently occupied by the South-East, is said to have been zoned to the South-West while that of National Woman Leader goes to North-West.
The office of National Treasurer is said to have been zoned to the North-Central just as the South-East has been penciled down to produce the National Organising Secretary position.
Indication that the Tuesday zoning committee meeting was deadlocked manifested when governors who attended the meeting at a popular hotel in Abuja, left barely one hour after it commenced.
